Anchorage Misadventure

On Monday January 25 Bill fell on the ice in the driveway while we were on our way to do some errands. He knew immediately that he had broken his leg and did not attempt to stand. The xray in the emergency room showed a diagonal break in the left femur. He was in surgery by 8 pm. He now has a new metal plate and seven pins holding the two separate pieces together. Xray photo shows the sharp end of the break and how the lower part of the bone slid up against the hip bone. Other photos are Bill in his hospital bed showing the bandages on the incision.

Adventures in Anchorage

We flew to Anchorage on January 20 to spend time with Amelia and Jason and to care for Rostam while his regular provider was away on vacation. We vastly enjoyed the new words every day, the hugs and kisses, and all the other joys that come with a 15 month old.

The fourth day we were there a moose wandered into the front yard and began eating the bushes next to the house. I took the first photo from the front window and the second from a back window in the lower level as he made his way to the back yard and lay down for the afternoon. He was soon joined by a bigger moose, possibly his mother who also lay down for the afternoon.

Saying Goodbye

Gavin left on the jet this morning. He was weather delayed for two days. Amelia and Rostam left last weekend and Jason and Tristyn a couple of days earlier. It is difficult feeling the silence when there has been so much activity for over two weeks. Come back soon, dear ones.

What Do You Do With A Gingerbread House?

Rostam still loves to read, with anyone at any location.

The family tradition of making gingerbread houses continued. Each child gets to choose his own candy confection decorations. Tristan left early with his house before we could get a photo.

Everyone agreed that instead of letting the houses sit and gather dust, we would eat them right after New Year's Day. Surprisingly the gingerbread was still soft and yummy.

Photos from paradise

Jason and Amelia and baby Rostam recently returned from a two week visit to Maui. While we were huddling under dark and snowy skies they were playing in the surf and strolling in the sand and taking naps on the beach.

Choosing the perfect costume

As the grandchildren get older they become more and more involved in the making of their Halloween costumes. This year Yasent designed and made most of his cyborg creation. His mother did the make-up for this part man part machine creature.

Lucas is a very serious clone trooper.

Fortunately we were able to convince Maya to be Dorothy from Kansas since we bought the dress and shoes months ago. Last year she discarded a gorgeous ballerina/witch costume for something she dug out of the costume box.
I coudn't resist another gorgeous little girl. This is Anne as red riding hood with the cape I made out of old curtains.

The More Things Change...

The above photo was taken in 1973 when Amy was a year old. The photo below was taken last week when Rostam had his first birthday. Bill has added 36 years to his age but the baby looks the same.

Rostam had a tiramasu birthday cake. Now there is a baby with impeccable taste.
